June 2015 Education Report

Three activities were held this month.

Caroline Wilson from National Office led our sixth River Gum School Project activity on Thursday, 4 June. This involved Year 7 students from the Hampton Park Secondary College visiting the River Gum Creek Reserve in Hampton Park. They were involved in a Round Robin of birding activities. She was assisted by Sally Heeps, Gay and Frank Gallagher, Bill Ramsay and Robert Grosvenor. I thank the eleven people who have assisted with this project this year.

On Monday, 15 June Janet Hand gave a presentation to the ladies of the North Balwyn Ladies Probus Club about the birds they are likely to encounter in the Balwyn area. Over 50 ladies were present at this meeting.

Friday, 19 June: On a cool and breezy day, 12 people braved the weather to participate in a bird walk around Jells Park with the Hawthorn U3A group. Pat Bingham led this walk and they saw ‘loads’ of Musk Lorikeet, three Freckled Duck, a Great Cormorant and an Australasian Darter with its wings spread.
